Larimer Sheriff Eases Some Restrictions of Poudre, Others Remain
On Tuesday, July 20, 2021, flooding along the Poudre River took the life of one woman, while three other people remain missing. Closures remain, but some of the river is back open.
Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) released a statement (July 22, 2021) where the Sheriff has lifted restrictions that were imposed on July 21, that closed down the Poudre River for all use, from the Fish Hatchery to the opening of the Poudre Canyon.
The new orders lift the closures from below Rustic, river areas above Rustic are still off-limits for all use.
From LCSO:
As restrictions are lifted, we encourage those entering the canyon to be mindful of the weather and river status during their visit. The forecast calls for more thunderstorm activity and conditions can change very rapidly. Let someone know where you’re going. If you see water rising, climb to the highest ground you can reach.
All evacuations that were in place, have also been lifted.
45 personnel were on the scene on July 22, 2021, down from 50 on July 21.
Summer is far from over, and Coloradan's eagerness to enjoy the outdoors can swell just like the Poudre. It's key to put everyone's safety above everything on your planned trip.
