Cheyenne has made do without a youth crisis center for several years, but thanks to the Laramie County Sheriff's Department it no longer has to.

Sheriff Danny Glick announced today (Tuesday) the opening of the Laramie County Youth Crisis Center.

Unlike most youth crisis centers in the state, the Cheyenne facility will be housed in the Juvenile Services Center at the Archer Complex.

The crisis center, which can house up to four boys and four girls, will provide kids ages 10 to 17 a free, safe place to "cool off" for a few days, so they and their families can work through their issues.

The Sheriff's Department says the facility can also be used for youth who commit less serious offenses to provide an alternative to detention.
