The folks at the Planetary Society are reporting that the green comet or C/2022 E3 (ZFT), will reach its closest point to the sun, or its "perihelion," tomorrow, January 12th, 2023. That means it'll be within 100 million miles of the sun. It is projected that by between February 1st and 2nd, the green comet will only be about 26 million miles away and could be visible with a simple pair of binoculars.

Better views of this solar system wonder will come through a telescope, otherwise, it may appear to just be a green-colored smudge. You can tell the comet from the other stars by its green color, and tails of dust. Since we're in the Northern Hemisphere, our odds of seeing this historic sight are pretty decent depending on how the comet continues to brighten during its journey over our skies. The comet was discovered at the Zwicky Transient facility back in March of 2022.
