All 11 Colorado Motel 6 Locations Will Soon Have New Owners
While all 11 Motel 6 locations will continue to leave the light on for you, for now at least, the ownership of the Motel giant is expected to have a brand new ownership group at the helm by the end of 2024.
Motel 6 Sold To New Owners For Over $500 Million
Created in Santa Barbara, California in 1962 by contractors Will Becker and Paul Greene, Motel 6 has become a true staple for the more budget-conscious travelers for over 6 decades.
Now with 11 different locations across Colorado and over 1500 across the country, Motel 6 has kept their "light on" for millions of tourists, business travelers (on a budget), and even local people around Colorado (and beyond) looking for inexpensive staycation accommodations. The world is certainly different than it was in 1962 when this dream began, and there are huge changes on the horizon for Motel 6.
Motel 6 Locations In Colorado And Beyond Sold To New Company
Motel 6, which is currently owned by parent company G6 Hospitality which is a part of the investment firm Blackstone, announced the sale of the Motel 6 properties for $525 million and is said to be an all-cash deal.
The new owner of the famous motel chain is Oyo, a hotel operator who launched in India about a decade ago. They currently operate over 300 hotels in the U.S. and are looking to expand their footprint, which purchasing the Motel 6 properties will help them accomplish.
Blackstone acquired Motel 6 and Studio 6 back in 2012 but paid over a billion dollars. For Oyo to scoop up the company for half of that is a steal and a no-brainer for the India-based company.
No word on what changes to expect around Colorado Motel 6 locations with the ownership change. Blackstone and Oyo are expected to have the deal for G6 Hospitality closed by the end of the year.
