It's the same question every year, usually starting right about now as news starts to come out about the next tax season, which is rapidly approaching.

When will we get our TABOR checks? First off, it's important to note that answer is a bit fluid, as not everyone will get them at the same time next year, just like every other year.

These refunds, of course, are all part of the state's Taxpayer's Bill of Rights law, which requires any overages of taxes collected to be returned to Colorado residents. And when you get yours will of course depend on when you file your taxes for the 2024 tax year.

If you file right out of the gate around the first part of January, you can expect to wait only a few weeks for your refund to be processed. If you opt for a paper check, they may take a bit longer, and if you wait till the April 15 tax deadline, your refund will take even longer to be processed.

In 2025, Colorado taxpayers are expected to receive less than we did last year, only somewhere between $181 to $571 for single filers, and double that for taxpayers who file jointly.

It makes sense that the refunds will be less this year as compared to last, given that they are expected to decrease year by year, according to a report from the Colorado Legislative Council.
