Boulder Students Put 17 New Fun Names on Snowplows
Snow season in Colorado means, skiing, big coats, shoveling the walk, and the naming of city snowplows across the state. Boulder has been getting kids to name their fleet for a few years, and it's always interesting to see what they come up with.
Being in the foothills, along the Flatirons, Boulder gets about 100 inches of snow each season; that means they need a lot of "trucks," snowplows out there keeping things safe, as well as "tidy," for the city.
For 2024, Boulder even had a "winged" snowplow for the kids to name.

Cities haven't been letting kids pick out names for their snowplows for very long; I think it would have been fun, back when I was a student in Loveland, Colorado. Back in the 70's and 80's we would have come up with some "gnarly" ones.
Some of the 2024 names the students chose have "Colorado" all over them; some have "kids" all over them. For some it's about rhyming; for others it's about being clever.
Pre-K up though 12th graders were encouraged to get involved, and it shows. Those who had their name chosen go to have their picture taken with that snowplow; that must have been very fun.

In a "team photo," one of the kids is dressed up as Darth Vader, in relevance to the name of the plow they named.
