Picking a name for a child can be an overwhelming process. Parents in Colorado try to pick the right name for their child that fits them. It is a big decision to make.

More likely than not, the name you are given is the same name you carry for the rest of your life.

There were roughly over 60,000 babies born in Colorado last year. That means there were countless conversations about selecting the right name.

You ask questions like:

  • Does the name sound good?
  • Should we name the baby after a relative?
  • ...Wait, isn't that your ex's name?

Uncommon Names vs. Common Names in Colorado

Whether you enjoy common names or not is entirely up to you. My name is Tanner. The name used to be a lot more common when I was a kid.

My dad was in charge of naming me and he picked my baby name in a rather unconventional way.

He simply asked one of his co-workers what he should name me. The co-worker randomly said Tanner and my dad went with it.

That's it. That was the entire process.

I am happy with my name. It's an example of how sometimes it is best to not overthink the naming process. However, that is much easier said than done.

My uncle liked the name so much that he named his child the same name four months later. Not even remotely joking.

But that is a story for another time.
