One year ago sports fans across the country sat in front of their televisions not to watch a game, or even highlights, but to find out where the NBA's most sought after free agent ever was going to "take his talents." 9.95 million people as matter of fact tuned into ESPN for their Thursday night special in which LeBron James announced he would be leaving Cleveland and "taking his talents" to South Beach to play with the Miami Heat.

The fallout wasn't only about the trader that many people now thought of James as, but the way he went about making his decision. Instead of letting the Cavaliers know he was bolting for Florida, he made them watch on TV like the rest of us. While the 10,000 or so Heat fans in Florida cheered the move (and the ridiculous introduction ceremony that soon followed with James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh) the spectacle turned James from one of the most popular players in the NBA to arguably the most vilified.

The move also led other players to think it's the "cool thing" to do, and leave teams and fans who have supported them for years to build "all-star" teams in other cities (Amare' Stoudamire and Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks).

The move did however work out well for James, the Heat, and the NBA. James with the help of his partner in crime Dwayne Wade led the Miami Heat to the Eastern Conference championship and a trip and loss in the NBA finals. Well the Cleveland Cavaliers had the worst record in the league and lost an NBA record 25 games in a row at one point. The NBA had sellouts everywhere the Heat played this year, and television ratings were the best they had been in 5 years for the NBA finals featuring James' Heat.

Kobe Bryant over came his troubles with fans after his rape allegations back in 2004 and has once again become one of the most popular players in the NBA, so maybe there is hope to turn things around for LeBron. With an NBA lockout on the horizon James will have time to work on his image and maybe sometime for the rest of the world to forget the circus he put on a year ago, everyone but Cleveland that is.

I thought maybe you would love to relive the "Decision" from a year ago, but that I remembered how nauseated it made me. Oh, and that's old news anyways, LeBron celebrated the anniversary with a new decision... Funny stuff (mature audiences only, language could be offensive to some).
