If you thought shredding season was over, think again.

The temperatures are rising here in Colorado, but that won't stop multiple ski areas from keeping their doors open until the absolute last day possible.

According to the Denver Post, only four Colorado ski areas were running operations as of the first of May:

  • Vail (Closed Sunday, May 1)**
  • Loveland (projected to close Sunday, May 8)
  • Winter Park (projected to close on or around Sunday, May 15)
  • Breckenridge (projected to close on Memorial Day)
  • Arapahoe Basin (not projected to close until June)

As of Friday (May 6), A-Basin is still going strong with all nine lifts in operation, according to the latest updates via onthesnow.com.

“I think we have the best snow coverage of the season,” Arapahoe Basin chief operating officer Al Henceroth wrote on his blog last week, the Denver Post reported.

“Definitely certain areas like the East Wall, including the hiking (terrain), have the best coverage of the season. Snow seems to cling to almost everything.”

Loveland Ski Area, which is currently reporting 7 out of 10 lifts open, according to onthesnow.com reported a total of 4" of snow accumulation over the last 72 hours. However, more snow is expected to hit the ski area - just in time for its final week in season.

In addition, Winter Park also can expect an additional 20" of snow over the next ten days. Onthesnow.com says Winter Park currently has only four of 25 lifts in operation, all of which are on the Mary Jane side of the ski area.
