We all knew it was coming but we are very close to the Pine Gulch Fire burning 18 miles north of Grand Junction becoming the largest fire in Colorado's history. This fire first began back on Friday, July 31st just after 5:00 p.m. and was used by a lightning strike. Since that time we have had hundreds if not thousands of some of the best firefighters in the country trying to get this blaze under control.

This fire has been extremely difficult to get contained due to its location and the terrain in which it is burning, also the weather has made things worse. Over the past few weeks, firefighters have had to work in extremely hot and dry conditions making it even easier for the fire to spread quickly.

Since the fire got started we have been getting daily updates on the Pine Gulch Fire Facebook page, which has been very helpful. It's also been great to see updates about how they are completely stocked up with supplies as our community has really been supportive of these brave men and women. If you still want to show your support for the firefighters you can do so by making a sign.

If you want to see the progression of the fire since it first began we have all those details here. If you want to see the Incident Information System that is being used by the firefighters to track the Pine Gulch Fire click here. The Pine Gulch Fire is currently at 135,920 acres burned with 53% containment. The largest wildfire in Colorado history is the Hayman Fire back in 2002 that burned 138,114 acres.
