CBS News has examined violent crime statistics to determine murder rates in 62 urban areas across the country. CBS reports that over 6,000 people were murdered in 2017, which is actually down from the previous year (Could it be all the Netflix documentaries we're watching?).

Speaking of which, Colorado has recently received national attention since serial killer Ted Bundy has once again become a household name after the release of the Netflix documentary and movie made about him. But, how safe is Colorado these days?

Tied with Orlando, FL at #40 out of the 62 cities is Aurora, CO, which has a murder rate of 8.3 out of 100,000 people, according to CBS. Denver tied with Boston, MA at #37 with a murder rate of 8.5 out of 100,000.

Colorado's cities ranked relatively safely compared to those that topped CBS News' Murder Map list, like St. Louis, MO, which has a rate of nearly 65 out of 100,000. Yikes.
