Folks who live in what used to be the northwest (now more north than west as the town has grown) part of Greeley will have a new place to walk the dog, jog, push the stroller, or whatever else you can imagine doing on a new concrete trail. The new Broadview Acres Trail should be completely open by the end of the week. The $415,000 project starts right behind Greeley Fire Station 3 on 35th Ave.

The concrete trail is about three-fourths of a mile and runs from 35th Avenue to 4th Street along the No. 3 Ditch. The city installed a bridge Monday just south of Ramseier Park, 2828 C St., that connects the park to the north side of the No. 3 Ditch. The bridge should be secured and ready to be used by the end of the week. Residents are already using the trail in some spots.

The project was funded by the American Recovery Act, a state transportation enhancement grant and the city’s trails development.

This is the first stage of three parts of the trail, the city hopes to eventually hook it up to Madison Elementary and take it west along the No. 3 Ditch to the concrete Larson Trail that runs across the street from Epple Park, 43rd Avenue and 4th Street and runs to F Street. The city eventually hopes to hook that up to the Poudre Trail. There’s no timeline as to when that may happen, it depends on when the city can get the money through grants or other means.
