Colorado Governor Jared Polis is urging Coloradans to limit 4th of July celebrations to immediate family or with 1 other family group in 2020.

Polis spoke at a press conference on Tuesday (June 24) pleading with residents to not cause a setback this upcoming 4th of July weekend.

In his speech, Polis mentioned that the 4th of July is cause for concern for Colorado, especially since Memorial Day weekend caused renewed outbreaks in other states like Arizona and Florida.

"The founding fathers would have wanted us to celebrate in a safe way," Polis said, encouraging Coloradans to celebrate with their families and to not gather in groups of more than 50 people when viewing fireworks or having personal barbecues.

"We can still have fun but it may not look like the 4th of July of past years."
