With the 20th anniversary of 9/11 coming up soon, it's been announced that Governor Jared Polis will be leading a commemoration event in conjunction with Senator Michael Bennet and Senator John Hickenlooper. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Empower Field at Mile High.

At the commemoration event, military, first responders, healthcare workers, and educators will be recognized for their service and sacrifice since 9/11 and even throughout the pandemic.

The website for the event states there will be a procession of first responders, frontline workers, and the military. They will be accompanied by memorial pipes and drums for the opening of the ceremony. The Colorado National Guard will also present military honors including a seven-gun salute, Taps, and a flyer.

According to the announcement, President and CEO of the Denver Broncos Joe Ellis will be receiving the Mizel Institute 2021 Community Enrichment Award for outstanding contributions to the community made by him and the Denver Broncos Football Club.

John Elway and Peyton Manning will both be speaking at the ceremony for Ellis recognizing the help and support he and the Broncos have given military, first responders, and essential workers.

After the ceremony, Kenny Loggins will be headlining a free outdoor concert exclusively for military, first responders, and frontline workers. The event is reportedly sold out.
