Governor Polis Asks Legal Council to Investigate Elijah McClain Death
In August of 2019, a 911 call was placed against 23-year-old Elijah McClain since someone saw him dancing in a ski mask. He was then put through, as Denver Westword calls it, a "torturous" encounter with Aurora police officers and later died as a result of it.
It was reported that Aurora police hadn't violated any departmental rules, even after it came out that McClain hadn't even committed a crime in the first place. Thanks to the Black Lives Matter movement, McClain's story has gained nationwide attention, and now, Governor Polis is stepping in.
In a statement on his social media today, Polis said:
Elijah McClain should be alive today, and we owe it to his family to take this step and elevate the pursuit of justice in his name to a statewide concern.

Because of this, the circumstances of McClain's death are now under review by Governor Polis's office. Time will now tell if McClain's family gets justice for the crime committed last year against their son.
