Legendary bass player, Jack Bruce died today. He was 71.

One of the greatest bass players and musicians of our time, Jack Bruce, died today, October 25th, at the age of 71. This morning on Bruce's official website, his family released this statement, "the world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

Born in Scotland in 1943, Jack grew up in a musical family and learned to play several different instruments. He eventually found himself playing a mean bass in London, where he met Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. The three formed the band Cream, and went on to sell 35,000,000 million albums.

Though they soon went their separate ways, together for less than three years, their work was groundbreaking. Cream produced some of the greatest freaking classic rock songs of all time.

It's amazing that he lived to be 71. Dude! That's like, 150 in bass-playing, hard-living, rock years. Thank you, Jack Bruce. Rest in peace, man.
