Fort Collins Crash: Construction Worker Killed, Driver Charged With DUI, Homicide

A construction worker was killed on Friday morning in Fort Collins after being hit by a truck.

The driver, 52-year-old Scott Duwaldt of Laramie Wyoming, was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, DUI and three counts of vehicular assault. Based on the investigation, police believe that Duwaldt was under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision.

According to Fort Collins Police, Duwaldt's 2000 Chevy Silverado truck was travelling west on Prospect Road when it crossed over the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with four AEG construction crew members near the intersection with Azalea Drive. The construction workers were working off of the roadway.

One of the workers, an adult male, was pronounced dead on the scene. The other three construction workers suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.

Duwaldt was uninjured in the crash.

Prospect Road was closed between Larch Street and La Reatta Court for more than four hours as investigators processed the scene.

AEG is a contract partner for Connexion, the City of Fort Collins Broadband provider.
