FoCo Hockey Tournament Raises $30K For Fallen Officers' Families

A charity hockey tournament in Fort Collins over the weekend raised thousands of dollars for the families of two Colorado police officers who fell in the line of duty earlier this year.

The Fallen Heroes Memorial Tournament, created by Jodi Brunjes and her husband, Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) Officer Adam Brunjes, served as an event to bring the community together and to support the families of the late Eric Talley and Gordon Beesley.

Officer Eric Talley served with the Boulder Police Department and was one of 10 victims of the King Soopers mass shooting in Boulder on March 22.

Officer Gordon Beesley served with the Arvada Police Department and was shot and killed while responding to a call in Olde Town Arvada on June 21.

According to reports from 9News, everybody who played in the charity tournament, which took place on Saturday, Aug. 14 and Sunday, Aug. 15, were first responders. Members from the Fort Collins Police Department, Boulder Police Department, Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Police Department, Colorado Springs Police Department - and even members from out of state - including those from the Las Vegas Police Department and the Cheyenne Fire Department - all participated in the charity tournament.

Ultimately, the Aurora Fire Hockey Club came out on top to beat Colorado Springs Police with a last-second goal in the tournament's final game on Sunday, which won them the contest with a score of 5 to 4.

Jodi Brunjes told 9News she and her husband, Adam plan to make the tournament an annual event.

"Being a police officer isn’t easy right now and all of this support and being able to help these families makes it all worth it," she said.
