It all just keeps coming up "Aces" for former Colorado State University basketball player turned pro, and now head coach of the Las Vegas WNBA squad, Becky Hammon. She was hired to be the head coach back in December, and after leading the team to a league best 26-10 record and the #1 seed heading into the playoffs, she can now add "WNBA Coach of the Year" to her trophy case.

Hammon was a stand out and 3 time All-American as a player at CSU from 1995-1999, and the team had great success during her time here in Northern Colorado. In 2004, she was inducted into the CSU Sports Hall of Fame and her #25 jersey was retired at Moby Arena the following year.

From Fort Collins, she went pro in 1999 as an un-drafted rookie signed into the WNBA, where she first played for the New York Liberty before being traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars in 2007. She played there another seven seasons before retiring as a six time all-star from the WNBA in 2014.

After retiring, she was named to the Liberty's Ring of Honor, then had her #25 jersey again retired, this time by the San Antonio Silver Stars, who eventually became the Las Vegas Aces. But more about that in a second.

As a retired player, Hammon made history again as an assistant coach for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, becoming the first full time female assistant coach in the history of all four major American sports - basketball, football, baseball and hockey. And even was promoted to acting head coach on a night when Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was ejected from agame against the LA Lakers, the first female to ever hold that role.

That quick audition paid off, because a year later she became a full time head coach back in the WNBA, this time for the team she used to play for - when they were in San Antonio - now the Las Vegas Aces.

The pride of CSU hoops, professional sports barrier breaker and record setter, and now the 2022 Coach of the Year in the WNBA. It all just keeps coming up "Aces" for #25.
