Former Colorado State University student Leslie Jones is bringing the laughs in her new Netflix special "Time Machine."

Jones transferred to CSU in 1987 from Chapman University in Orange, California, following her coach Brian Berger on the Rams' women's basketball team.

"I came from Compton, you know. Most of these people (at CSU) had never seen a black person before," she continued. "I walked into the first practice with big knee pads, and a headband on... slammed the basketball down and yelled "Who got next!?"

Jones got her start in stand-up comedy in 1987 when she was a failing sophomore. According to a interview on The Howard Stern Show, she was signed up for a "funniest person on campus" contest by a friend.

Jones won the contest and quickly realized that she was much more interested in telling jokes than struggling through classes she had no interest in. She moved back to California and perused a comedy career full time, eventually landing a starring role in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot and a spot on Saturday Night Live.

Leslie Jones Netflix special "Time Machine" is available now to stream on Netflix.
