Flock to the fun this Saturday morning for the 6th Annual Duck Race hosted by the Windsor Optimist Club

At 10 a.m. on July 9, hundreds of yellow ducks, all "adopted" and decorated by local community members, businesses, and sponsors will be dropped from the 17th Street Bridge, located behind the Windsor Gardener into the No. 2 Canal. The ducks will make their way down the canal until they reach the finish line – located at the 11th Street Bridge behind the Windsor Recreation Center. Depending on wind and water level, it usually takes about 20 to 40 minutes for the first duck to swim across the finish line. Fingers crossed that there is no delay due to fowl weather.

Those who adopt ducks will take a quack at winning cash prizes of $500, $300, and $100, which will be awarded to the first three ducks that reach the 11th Street Bridge. Once the small ducks have finished the race, the large sponsor ducks will take part in their own competition down the canal, all vying for the coveted traveling trophy. Last year's sponsor trophy winner was RiteCorp Pest Control.

If you plan on attending this event, parking is available at the Windsor Rec Center and at Windsor High School. There is a paved path that goes right along both sides of the canal so that you can follow the ducks on their route, all the way to the finish line.
