Flight Diverted To DIA After Passenger Tries To Open Door Midair
A Spirit Airlines flight from Cleveland to Los Angeles was diverted to Denver International Airport on Wednesday (Mar. 24) after a passenger attempted to open the emergency exit door on the aircraft mid-flight.
The video above, obtained by NBC News, shows a person being held down by multiple passengers and restrained with zip ties on the flight.
The passenger allegedly tried to open the plane’s emergency exit door while in flight; this happened on Spirit Airlines Flight 185 that left Cleveland around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday night.
in wake of the incident, Spirt Airlines issued the following statement:
"Spirit Airlines flight 185 diverted to Denver on the way to Los Angeles due to a passenger who appeared to attempt to open an exit door. It is important to note that opening a door inflight is impossible due to air pressure inside the cabin pinning the door against its frame with force stronger than any person could ever overcome."
"Safety is our number one priority at Spirit Airlines. Law enforcement met the aircraft in Denver and took the passenger into custody. We thank the crew members and Guests who assisted for handling this situation quickly prior to arrival."
Nobody was hurt as a result of the incident; Flight 185 eventually made it to Los Angeles on Thursday morning (Mar. 25), as per reports from Fox 31.
