From hole-in-the-wall gastropubs to fancy steakhouses and everything in between, there's no shortage of delicious restaurants throughout the state of Colorado. With so many options, it can be hard for certain eateries to stand out among the rest.

But that's not a problem for Ophelia's Electric Soapbox.

The massive, multi-level restaurant/music venue is a staple of Denver's Five Points neighborhood, but people from all over the state, and even out-of-towners, enjoy stopping into this unique establishment.

The Victorian brownstone building where Ophelia's now operates has a somewhat scandalous history. Prior to the restaurant and music venue moving in, the downtown property operated as a brothel and a sex shop, and was no stranger to hosting peep shows too.

Rather than sweeping the building's sultry beginnings under the rug, the owner of Ophelia's has chosen to celebrate it. A sex-positive vibe fills the interior of the eclectic venue, making it one of the city's sexiest spots to drink, dine, or enjoy a show.

To start, burlesque-themed signage hangs in the entryway and a bucket of condoms is offered at the hostess stand. The vibe continues into the main dining area, with a disco ball dangling from the ceiling and sensual artwork hanging on the walls.

Both the brunch and dinner menus feature an array of creative dishes, with cheeky category names like Foreplay & Teasers, 3rd Base, and Afternoon Delights. The food at Ophelia's highlights global flavors, with an American flair. Many of the ingredients used in the kitchen are locally and sustainably sourced.

Ophelia's spirited alcoholic beverages follow suit with suggestive names, including the NC-17 and the French Kiss. A Sober Curious category also exists, for those who do not drink.

Besides serving up mouthwatering meals and hand-crafted cocktails, the boudoir-chic venue is the ultimate place to peep a show - not that kind of show. On Friday and Saturday nights, the quirky establishment plays host to all kinds of concerts and performances, including big-name musical acts, local DJs, drag shows, dueling pianos, and stand-up comedians. Concerts encompass a full range of styles and genres. Most shows are for guests 21 years and older but sometime's there are exceptions. Free live music is also offered every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When the music gets going, the dance floor gets hyped.

When something isn't happening on stage, patrons remain entertained by whatever is playing on the big screen in the center of the space. This particular evening, it happened to be an episode of Star Trek.

In 2022, the owner of Ophelia's revamped the venue's downstairs area, adding more space for the dance floor, plus an upgraded sound system and lighting fixtures. The energy inside Ophelia's truly is electric in every way imaginable.

It's important for guests to know that dinner reservations do not provide access to the downstairs area or entrance to ticketed shows, and tickets for a concert do not include dinner or guaranteed seating. Visit Ophelia's Electric Soapbox at 1215 20th Street in Denver.
