The town of Timnath has reached a settlement with the former mayor of Windsor for $250,000 after police unlawfully arrested him in 2017.

In October of 2017, John Vazquez was violently arrested by Timnath police while exercising his First Amendment rights. According to the complaint, Vazquez was "smashed on the hood of a police car and kneed in the groin." Vazquez describes the incident as "warrant-less seizure, excessive force, unlawful search, and malicious prosecution."

Vazquez was charged with third-degree assault and obstructing a police officer. However, in May of 2018 a jury acquitted him of the charges.

A formal agreement was reached last week after Vazquez filed a civil lawsuit seeking compensatory and punitive damages for emotional distress, humiliation, pain and general suffering.

Vazquez was mayor of Windsor from 2008 to 2016.
