A 22 year-old-man shot and killed five people along with injuring 25 others in a mass shooting in Colorado Springs at a gay nightclub, Club Q, late Saturday night/early Sunday morning November 19,20, 2022.

While authorities begin their investigation (the shooter has been charged with 10 felonies,) the Colorado community, once again, mourns lives lost. Another mass shooting where people were gathered, minding their own business, peacefully.

Many Coloradans feel the exact same way as this father, after hearing of the Club Q incident. When I heard there was a shooting at gay (LGBTQ+) bar on Saturday night, I immediately thought of a good friend who's gay and was fearful that the shooting had happened at his favorite bar, in Denver. I was relieved to hear it wasn't that bar, but still worried for my friend and his companions.

In March of 2021, ten people were killed in a mass shooting at a King Soopers in Boulder. I remember that horrible day, as many other Coloradoans do, as much as I do Columbine. Here we are, again, with another tragic shooting; this one involving a specific group of Coloradans. I don't like the feeling that because of it taking place at an LGBTQ+ establishment, that the citizens of Colorado won't be as proactive in our response to the incident.

The Colorado Healing Fund has set up an account to collect donations to assist the injured and the families of those that perished in the shooting. It's a wonderful way for Coloradan to not only help those involved in the shooting, but also the LGBTQ+ community as well.
