The country has watched it rain like cats and dogs along the Gulf Coast for the past week, but when it comes to Colorado, this phrase has more of a literal meaning to it.

That's because more than 100 animals from shelters in Louisiana and Texas are now being relocated to the Centennial State, due to overcrowding caused by the hurricane and heavy flooding. The photos that have been surfaced of the flood waters washing away animal shelters and displacing pets are truly devastating, so it's really great that multiple organizations in Colorado have stepped in to help.

None of the cats and dogs that are being brought to Colorado have owners, so once the shelters are able to complete full health evaluations, which is only expected to take a couple of days, they will all be available for adoption. The relocated animals can be found at Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), Fort Collins Cat Rescue, Pueblo Animal Services (PAS)Denver Dachshunds Rescue and Transport (DDRT), and Ark-Valley Humane Society (AVHS). Those looking to adopt or foster can apply on each of the shelter's websites.
