Greeley's done it, why can't Loveland? That seems to be the rationalization with some city officials in Loveland.

About a year ago, a state law went into effect letting cities have designated open areas where citizens can carry open containers of alcohol.  Loveland's City Council may be voting on such an area for 4th street in downtown, soon!

Downtown Loveland has had its ups and downs over the years, but recently, things have been on the upswing.  I've seen more business pop-up, seen more businesses sticking around. With the latest addition of Loveland newest brewpub- Loveland Ale Works, I think the idea will get the green light.

From The Reporter-Herald:

"As far as this pertains to downtown, I think it would be an easy thing to do," said Loveland councilor Daryle Klassen, who was the first to float the idea among other city officials.

"One of the advantages that we have is that it's a little more concentrated on Fourth Street. Downtown revitalization, I've always thought, is a mobile thing. You go up and down the street. You hear some live music up here, and stop and talk with a friend down the street."

I couldn't agree more! Let's mingle!  Greeley just started (they were the first in Colorado) their own 'open carry' district this summer with their Go-Cup District along the 9th Street Plaza, and it's helped to revitalize the area!

The open-container 'Entertainment District' motion is NOT on the Loveland City Council's calendar yet, but they did want to get the public's thoughts on the subject; so they went to Facebook: Out of 97 responses to the question "Should Loveland allow open containers downtown with designated areas" the majority were in favor.

I am in favor as well!   What do YOU think?
