Hearing about people in Northern Colorado who have earned national attention is always neat, and I have to say that I was pretty surprised to learn about a man in Weld County who holds a very unique World Record.

Lee Maxwell is a passionate collector of old washing machines, so much so, that his museum in Eaton currently holds the Guinness World Record for having the most antique washing machines in it. Lee Maxwell’s Washing Machine Museum is home to more than 1400 vintage washing machines from all over the world, including some that were manufactured as early as 1840. Besides the multitude of ancient washers, the museum also features many other vintage household appliances, such as refrigerators, butter churns, and dishwashers. Maxwell also has a library of maintenance and operator manuals on-hand, and extensive files of old-school advertisements concerning washing machines. Museum-goers can even get an up-close look at the workshop which has tons of old tools used to repair and restore washers, plus a barn that's full of machines that have yet yet to be revived.

The nationally recognized, specialty museum is open only for guided tours. Tours are normally around two hours long and are usually scheduled for either 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Tours are typically done in the warmer months of the year and can be arranged by calling 970-454-1856 or emailing lee@oldewash.com. Admission for groupss with up to 10 people is $75, and costs an extra $7.50 for each additional person. Lee Maxwell’s Washing Machine Museum is located at 35901 County Road 31.
