Construction Begins on Controversial Estes Park Mountain Coaster

The Mustang Mountain Coaster project that has been plagued with controversy and aversion from many Estes Park residents has begun construction.

We reported back in May that the Colorado Supreme Court had unanimously given the go-ahead to ousted Estes Park mayor Cody Walker and his Yukutat Land Corp. to build the massive mountain coaster on the outskirts of the small mountain town. Now, after years of petitions, court challenges and lawsuits for everything from upset neighbors to technical paperwork and zoning issues, construction has begun.

Tuesday (July 28) Estes Park resident hlbeezy on Instagram heard the helicopter above being used to pour concrete blocks for the base of the thrill ride.

According to the Trail Gazette, the project is described as a single-ride attraction with no additional infrastructure "besides a storage shed for coaster carts and a building that will operate as a ticket booth, office space, and bathrooms."

Right now you can purchase a lifetime coaster pass for $500.

Developers of the coaster are planning for a Memorial Day 2021 opening.
