Yesterday (March 7) the U.S. House of Representatives met in Wisconsin. The debate over the merits of the proposed H.R. 1 bill, intended to overhaul voting rights, political campaign finance reform and lobbying, devolved into Republican and Democratic congressmen (Rodney Davis and Mark Pocan, respectively) arguing about the merits of Nickelback.

In the video clips below, Pocan mentioned that a 2016 census determined only four of 77,000 people who commented on the provision wanted to keep it.. The Democratic congressman then used this stat to take aim at Nickelback, stating, "That’s probably about the percent of people who think Nickelback is their favorite band in this country. It's pretty low."

Davis seemed stunned, responding, "Why would you criticize one of the greatest bands of the '90s?" While Nickelback released two albums in the 1990s, their major success was found in the new millennium when the "How You Remind Me" single skyrocketed their career, netting a string of multi-platinum releases since 2001.

"Wow! One more reason why there’s a difference between Democrats and Republicans — clearly found on the floor of Congress today," exclaimed Pocan.

When it was Davis' turn to speak, he used his time on the floor to continue his defense of Nickelback, even using Pocan's dislike of the band as a weapon. "I know [Pocan] did not mean to offend the many thousands upon thousands of Nickelback fans in his district in Wisconsin," commented the Republican.

"I’ll stand here to save you from doing that and have to face the political consequences at the ballot box, he continued, adding a personal touch when he explained, "And yes, I actually do have a Nickelback song on my running playlist that I listen to on a regular basis. I was ridiculed [for] that when I posted my playlist one time, and I know some in this chamber, even up at the dais, are still laughing about that."

Quelling everyone's curiosity, Davis shared a portion of his running playlist on Twitter:

At least nobody brought up that time when a pickle got more likes on Facebook than Nickelback in 2010.
