Sorry, But Colorado’s Mask Mandate Likely Won’t End April 4
During Governor Polis' press conference Monday, he shared that the statewide mask mandate will likely be extended again, CBS4 Denver reported. That contradicts an earlier report that said Colorado's mandate could lift by Easter Sunday, April 4.
Governor Polis updated Coloradans on the vaccine rollout as well, sharing that as of Friday, April 2, Phase 2 would begin, making the general public eligible to sign up. Now that more people can sign up, however, patience is key. Much of Colorado's Phase 1 still has yet to be vaccinated.
Because it could be a couple of months until everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be, Polis is asking Coloradans, even those fully vaccinated, to please continue to mask up. With April 4 coming up at the end of this week, it's likely safe to assume that the mask mandate will not be lifted that soon.
According to CBS4, Polis said that we will 'likely to have about a two week extension of that mask order,' which has been in place since spring of 2020.
Right now, CDPHE reports that only one fifth of Coloradans have been fully vaccinated, and the positivity rate has slightly increased to 3.88 percent in the last week. Colorado has several mass vaccination sites, including one at The Ranch in Larimer County.
Over the weekend, there were reportedly three-hour waits at Dick's Sporting Goods Park's vaccination site, but that was chalked up to a 'glitch' that allowed hundreds of people to sign up for vaccine slots that didn't really exist (oops) and will hopefully run more smoothly going forward.
