Colorado Ranks as One of the Least Happy States
Here in Colorado, there has been something that has become a bit of an issue here; mental health.
When it comes to adult’s mental health, Colorado ranks 45th out of 51 states in the country, which includes Washington D.C.
This comes despite the fact that Coloradans seem to take their mental health more seriously than other states in the country.
In a different study done by Axios, they found that 59% of Coloradans consider mental health to be an extremely or very serious problem.
It’s not all doom and gloom, though.
After dipping down to new lows over the past few years, it would appear that the mental health of Colorado teens has notably improved over the past year.
With that being said though, a new report from WalletHub seems to show there still is room for improvement when it comes to Colorado’s mental health.
Colorado is the 15th Least Happy State in the Country
WalletHub recently released a new study that looked to find which states were the most and least happy in the country.
They ranked each state on three different criteria; emotional and physical wellbeing, work environment, and community and environment rank.
After each state is ranked, they are given a final score.
Colorado doesn’t rank particularly well in any of these categories.
The highest ranking we get is for our work environment, which comes in essentially in the middle of the pack at 26th.
When it comes to emotional and physical wellbeing, we drop a little bit and rank 29th.
However, what truly tanks our score is our community and environment rank, which is 48th in the country, the third lowest in the entire study.
That gives Colorado a total score of 46.29, which means we are the 15th least happy state in the country.
What are the Happiest and Saddest States?
The happiest and saddest states in the country couldn’t be any more different.
Taking the top spot as the country’s happiest state is Hawaii. They rank first for emotional and physical well-being, and are third in community and environment. They only seem to drop the ball in terms of their work environment, at 31st.
Overall, Hawaii got a total score of 68.71.
On the other hand, the least happy state in the entire country is Louisiana.
They rank 49th in both emotional and physical wellbeing and work environment. They also rank 40th in community and environment.
Overall, these rankings give them a total score of 32.97.
