Colorado Plane Made Emergency Highway Landing Sunday

Sunday highway traffic looked a little different in one Colorado town on Jan. 31.

A small plane experiencing engine failure made an emergency landing on a median on Highway 50 in Penrose.

The plane was about 12 miles away from Fremont County Airport when the emergency landing was made.

KDVR reports the plane landed safety and the pilot was uninjured in the situation. The FAA is investigating the incident.

Colorado State Patrol initially urged motorists to use caution in the area.

A short time later CSP updated to say that the plane had been towed by a pickup truck — that must have been quite the sight for fellow traffic.

We've seen similar incidents like this in Northern Colorado.

Last June, a jet carrying three people was forced to make an emergency landing at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport in Loveland.

The pilot in that incident decided to make the emergency landing after a smoke indicator began going off in the baggage department. Officials later determined that there was no smoke or fire on the jet, and that the indicator was faulty.

Meanwhile in May 2019, one person was killed in a small airplane crash just north of the Northern Colorado Regional Airport after attempting an emergency landing on County Road 30.
