I shoveled more snow in the past few days than I have in the past 23 years since moving from Ohio. You never know how big your driveway is until you have to remove a foot of snow from it...WITHOUT a snow blower....and don't even get me started on those 3 car garage driveways, we don't have one but I did the neighborly thing and helped a few folks in my hood.

Don't let the smile fool you...I was deeply regretting not having a snow blower right about now..

A couple of days later and my legs and back are still feeling it a bit, especially my lower back. I thought I was using my legs mostly but apparently not enough and THAT in itself is something that we all need to do when shoveling snow...bend with your legs.

That one in itself will make things a little easier for your back but according to this video from 9 News, there are 3 things we can do to make our lives easier when it comes to shoveling snow...other than using a snow blower or having someone else do it for us.

  1.  Use cooking oil or spray on your shovel
  2. Wear socks OVER your boots for better traction
  3.  Cover your car, driveway or sidewalk (or all of the mentioned with a tarp)
