The Colorado Avalanche are going across the pond next season and heading to Finland.

This will mark the first time the National Hockey League has gone to Europe for games since before the pandemic during the 2019 season.

The Avalanche will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets as part of the 2022 Global Series in November of 2022 with the official dates yet to be determined.

This will be the second time the Avs have played a regular-season game outside of North America. The first time was back in 2017 when they faced off against the Ottawa Senators in Sweden.

Back in 2001, right after their last Stanley Cup Championship, they played a couple of exhibition games in Sweden as well.

The Avalanche have a few Finnish players on their current squad, one of them being one of their most dynamic players in forwarding Mikko Rantanen, a native of Nousiainen.

One of their most recent acquisitions,  Artturi Lehkonen, is from nearby Piikkio.

Tickets and VIP hospitality packages to the games between the Avalanche and Blue Jackets in Finland go on sale Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. EET at LiveNation.com.

Now, as for this year, the Avalanche are currently on a 4-game skid while some key players heal up from injuries and get rested for the playoffs which start in about a week. Getting back into form before the postseason this week is going to be key to heading into the playoffs on a positive note.

Go Avs Go.
