I mean, we were the first state to legalize its use and sale recreationally, so it’s sometimes fair to equate the two.

However, Colorado actually has had quite the history with drugs, sometimes a bit unsavory as well.

For example, the largest drug bust in state history 1,000 grams of crack and a pound of methamphetamine.

There is one other drug that has been left out that not only easily took up most of the product in that drug bust, but is a substance Coloradans seem to use more than the rest of the country.

According to Westword, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration comes up with their annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

In it, they take a look at how each state consumes different drugs and finds out which states have the biggest problem with each.

To get the most complete answers, they accumulate data two years before and analyze it, so this year’s report has answers from 2022.

In the report, they found that Coloradans have the highest percentage of cocaine users, with 3.03% of adults over eighteen years old admitting to using the stimulant within the past year.

This isn’t Colorado’s first time being rated this high. In fact, 2020 marked the first time on the survey that Colorado topped the country in cocaine use.

This is not great news, since it seemed like we had made progress in 2021, dropping down to 20th.

The full top five states are:

  1. Colorado
  2. Vermont
  3. Rhode Island
  4. Massachusetts
  5. California
