May 13 through 19 is National Police Week, and while we always try to show our support and gratitude for law enforcement, these seven days serve as a reminder to take into account just how much they really do for our communities.

Besides fighting crime and putting their lives on the line day after day, police officers go out of their way to help others in need – even when it's not a human who needs assistance. This was the case in Boulder Wednesday, when Animal Protection Officers from the Boulder Police Department worked to help free an owl who had gotten itself tangled up in a netted soccer goal. Without their help, the bird may have never been able to get free.

According to Boulder Police, the owl went to Birds of Prey in Broomfield following the incident.
