Seattle based Amazon services has purchased land in Colorado Springs for a 4-million-square-foot distribution and sorting center.

Amazon services paid $6.33 million to Colorado Springs for 69.2 acres in the Colorado Springs Airport's Peak Innovation Park.

The project is one of the biggest commercial projects in Colorado Springs history, bringing at least 1,000 jobs to the city. Developers are hoping it will drive more traffic and commerce to the Colorado Springs Airport business park as well.

In a press release, Amazon said the positions will be full time at $15 per hour, with benefits.

Contractors have already been clearing the site and expect construction to start next month.
