A Lafayette assisted living facility was placed on lockdown Wednesday (February 3) morning, after an employee was reportedly shot by a 95-year-old resident.

According to Denver7, police responded to Legacy Assisted Living at approximately 7:15 a.m., after staff called about a shooting that occurred at the location.

When Lafayette Police arrived on scene, they located a 40-year-old employee that had been shot. He was taken to the hospital and placed on life support.

Police also located the 95-year-old suspect inside his bedroom within the facility, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The shooting took place in the front area of the assisted living center, but police are still investigating on the events leading up to it. Officers believe that only one shot was fired from a small handgun during the exchange.

Charges have not yet been filed against the resident.
