Getting from Fort Collins down to Denver or Colorado Springs could some day be as easy as hopping on a train.

A passenger rail connecting Colorado's Front Range has been discussed for years and earlier this month, CDOT updated its proposal for the project.

The current price tag for the first phase of the project (Fort Collins to Colorado Springs) is estimated between $1.5 and $2.5 billion. A second phase connecting Pueblo would require an additional $200-300 million.

The current proposal states the passenger rail would make 2-6 daily roundup trips. Maximum speeds would hit 79 MPH.

CDOT modeling previously estimated that 3 million people would use the train service annually, including about 9,200 every week day.

Who wouldn't want to avoid that I-25 traffic?
