A 13-year-old-boy died after his canoe tipped Thursday afternoon on a Windsor lake.

His eight-year-old younger brother survived, according to a Denver7 report.

Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue said the initial call came in at 3:16 p.m. Crews immediately began searching for the 13-year-old boy. The 8-year-old boy, who was wearing a life vest, was out of the water when rescue crews arrived.

Greeley, Loveland, Berthoud and Larimer County Search and Rescue assisted in the rescue near the Water Valley North subdivision.

Crews searched for several hours using divers, a sonar system and a cadaver dog. High winds around 30 MPH made rescue operations challenging.

The body was recovered around 7:15 p.m. after the dog had located the boy's scent in the area.
