Some 30 species of ticks occur in Colorado.  They are a creepy annoyance to
my dogs, horses, and yes…they LOVE my blood too. There are a few effective tick
repellents. By far the most common is DEET.

Now, if you missed the DEET, here’s how you get the ticks  off on skin.  Apply a glob
of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab
it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton
ball when you lift it away. Peak periods of tick activity can begin as early as March
during warm seasons. They usually subside by mid-July.
