For those seeking licenses and/or registrations from Larimer County right now had better set aside some time before heading to the nearest office. The county installed a new system called "the Colorado Driver License, Record, Identification and Vehicle Enterprise Solution, or "D.R.I.V.E.S." earlier this month with the hope that the new technology will make things simpler and easier in the long run. Unfortunately, there are some bumps in the road to overcome first.

Before the change, wait times would be in the 20 minute range. According to the Reporter-Herald, the wait times are not currently in the minutes, the are "in the hours". However, the old system was 35 years old and was in need of an upgrade. The new system will streamline the process and reduce the wait times to a more normal expectation, but there are glitches and learning curves to overcome.

To complicate matters, the Reporter-Herald also reported that August is the busiest month for the licensing office as folks tend to buy new vehicles during the summer. To remedy the situation for now, the county is making efforts to help residents by staying open past regular closing times to assist those who have been waiting.

With each day that passes, the new D.R.I.V.E.S. system is getting better and the employees using it are getting more comfortable with it. For now, the county suggests that if your need is not pressing, then to wait until next month.
