Since it is  Throwback Thursday, let's take the opportunity to go ona trip back in time and reminisce with an old favorite.

We chose  'Hotel California' as our Throwback Thursday song for today, because on this exact day, January 15, in the year 1977, The Eagles went No.1 on the US album chart with this smash hit. Also during 1977, the group was awarded with a Grammy for Record of the Year for the same song.

During a 2013 documentary that looked back at the history of the band, Don Henley explained that the song was about "a journey from innocence to experience." 'Hotel California' was written about living the high life in Los Angeles. More specifically, how it was becoming more and more popular for people to be living in a state of excess, self-destruction, and greed. If you actually listen to the lyrics, you will learn the story of a traveling man who checks into said hotel, which at first seems very inviting and luxurious, but in the end, transforms into a hellish place where one cannot escape.

There have been countless covers of this classic hit, and it has even made it on several notable lists, including "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll."

Enjoy your trip back in time 38 years ago today..
