Dia de los Muertos Celebrations in Northern Colorado

Today Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is being celebrated across southern Mexico and also in the U.S.

The holiday also coincides with the Catholic holiday called All Saint's Day which is why the two are often combined with ancient beliefs to honor deceased loved ones.

According to MexicanSugarSkull.com, Dia de los Muertos is the belief "that the gates of Heaven are opened at midnight on October 31, and the spirits of all deceased children (angelitos) are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. On November 2, the spirits of the adults come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared for them."

There are festivities going on in Northern Colorado and the Cactus Grille in Loveland will be offering some specials as well.

In Longmont, the Museum & Cultural Center's celebration has been running from October 15th and will continue through November 8th.
During this time you will see original artwork by local artists Carlos Fresquez and Francisco Zamora. Altars for the dead, created by members of the community, will also be part of the exhibit in the Swan Atrium. The museum is located at 400 Quail Road, Longmont, CO
