Nearly a year has passed since one of rock's most powerful voices was silenced. Chris Cornell died on May 18, 2017, and with the one-year anniversary coming up this Friday, the singer's widow has announced plans to mark the occasion. There will be a public vigil held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, where the vocalist was laid to rest.

In a social media post, Vicky Cornell invited fans to take part. "It is with great emotion I reach out to all of you as the one year anniversary of my husband's passing approaches," she tweeted. "Chris was loved, so much, by so many. The children and I are so grateful to you all for being by our sides throughout all of this. Your love has created a close-knit community; more like a family; to grieve with, to provide support, and to help us heal. We could not have gotten through these last twelve months without you."

With Cornell's music touching people worldwide, Vicky knows that not everyone will be able to make it to Los Angeles to participate, but she encourages those who were moved by the singer's music to share videos about how the late vocalist touched their lives.

"We can feel your love no matter how far," said Cornell. "Light a candle, say a prayer, speak his name. Loud love." The event will take place at 7PM PT at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Just last month, Vicky Cornell launched the Addiction Resource Center for Chris, an online resource for people and families struggling with addiction. She also spearheaded the efforts to create the Addiction Resource Line, a hotline for those needing to talk with healthcare employees and peer recovery support advocates.
