Driving down First Avenue last night in Loveland was a sight to behold. Getting passed by several unmarked police vehicles and wondering what was going on.

Today, we have learned that a man was arrested in south Loveland after a three-hour carjacking spree that spanned Loveland, Berthoud, and parts of Boulder County.

It all started yesterday afternoon around 3 p.m. when Larimer County Sheriffs received a call about a man in the Owl Canyon area who was driving while intoxicated. Deputies found him, engaged in pursuit but called off the chase because of his "extremely dangerous driving."

The suspect did end up crashing that car around 4 p.m. while driving on I-25. The suspect, not yet identified, reportedly stole another vehicle from a nearby house. Deputies could not find him by the time they got to the accident scene.

At 6 p.m. the Larimer County Sheriff's Office discovered he allegedly stole another car, this time in Boulder County. The suspect was trying to steal the third car in the parking lot of the Praha Restaurant on Ute Hwy when he was confronted by the vehicle's owner and staff members. He threatened them with a knife.

If you are thinking that this is reading already like a bad movie, you'd be right.

The Reporter-Herald cites Brian Jones, a sergeant with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office saying it was in the parking lot of that restaurant that a staff member used a stun gun on the suspect. The suspect was undeterred and eventually found a third car. Officers from different agencies chased the man as he drove north on 287 into Loveland. Near South Lincoln Avenue and Southeast 8th Street officers were finally able to catch him by using spike strips. The man was taken into custody around 6:10 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The Larimer County Sheriff's Office expects to have more information on the suspect later today.
