Gun control debates continue to fire off as Boulder City Council just unanimously voted to ban what they define as 'assault weapons,' which means some gun owners have until July to dispose of theirs.

According to the Daily Camera in Boulder, the council voted in favor of an ordinance that 'prohibits the sale and possession of assault weapons,' and raises the gun ownership age to 21. However, it also will mean owners of high-capacity magazines and bump stocks will have until July 15 to 'dispose of or sell them.'

This legislation makes owning a banned assault weapon a misdemeanor.

While many support the decision, others argue it is a violation of rights, which is why Boulder has agreed to 'grandfather in' certain assault weapons.

The Denver Channel has reported that Boulder now faces a federal lawsuit, which you can read about here.
