Thanksgiving is a time to (obvs) be thankful for the important things in life like family, friends, the roof over our head, and all the food on the table that we're about to gluttonously stuff our faces with. Sometimes we'd rather celebrate all of the above away from our dysfunctional family.

Celebrate family away from family, Mollie? What's the point in that, and how does that even make any sense?

Oh, trust me - I'd prefer it that way. As much as I love my family, they definitely have their annoyances (I certainly do myself) that I'd rather just not deal with at times. (No offense to my family - I love you, I swear.)

If you're dreading talking openly about every little one of your life's details at the Thanksgiving table with your family as much as I am with mine, perhaps you should try one of these 5 cocktails that'll take the edge off your family's dysfunction. (Who knows, maybe the drunkenness will give you something to bond over.)

  • 1

    Cranberry Moscow Mule

I made Moscow Mules for my family at Thanksgiving last year and they were a huge hit, mostly because we all got drunk and loved each other a little bit more. The cranberries add even more of a holiday flare.

  • 2

    Pumpkin Pie Shooters

I know they're not the same as everyone's favorite Thanksgiving dessert, but I'm sure these pumpkin pie shooters are the bomb dot com.

  • 3

    Turkey Legs

As disgusting as the name sounds, this spiced brandy and rum cocktail is probably pretty amazing. This is also one drink you'll need for Thanksgiving pre-gaming if your family REALLY loves booze.

  • 4

    Autumn Sangria

If apples, pears, apple cider, cinnamon sticks, and wine don't scream, "We're the cure for anxiety over family dysfunction," I honestly don't know what does.

  • 5

    Stout Coffee Cocktail

This drink serves as a great metaphor for all the emotions you're feeling at Thanksgiving: the ups of being reunited with family (caffeine) with the downs of having to answer questions like, "So when are you gonna find a boyfriend?" or "When are you and [husband/wife's name] finally going to have a baby?" (booze).

    Drink up, my darling.
